Abstract
Cords &c. of fibre-forming linear polyester are adhered to rubber by incorporating in at least the portion of the rubber coating adjacent the fibre a methylene acceptor and a methylene donor, capable of reacting with the methylene acceptor, which is an N-(substituted oxymethylene) carboxylic acid amide, N-(substituted oxymethylene) cyclic imide, 5-substituted-1-aza-3,7-dioxa-bicyclo [3,3,0] octane, a 5-substituted-1, 3-di (substituted oxymethylene) hexahydrotriazine-2- one, trimeric methyleneaminoacetonitrile, a dialkyl-N-(subtituted oxymethylene) amine, 1,8-di-(methyllene amino)-p-methane or an azomethine of formula <FORM:1112007/D1-D2/1> wherein R,R1,R11 are alkyl radicals having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, phenyl radicals, benzyl radicals, or 2-phenylethyl radicals. Suitable donors include resorcinol and m-aminophenol. The rubbers may be natural or synthetic or mixtures and may contain the usual compounding ingredients. The cord is bonded to the rubber by heating during cure.
