Abstract

Plaster compositions comprise plaster solids together with an aqueous dispersion of an acrylate homo- or co-polymer giving a Persoz film hardness of up to 100. The plaster solids may comprise anhydrous calcium sulphate and/or calcium sulphate hemi-hydrate, and the compositions may also contain non-cementitious fillers, e.g. clay, whiting and calcium sulphate dihydrate. A particularly suitable mixture of plaster and filler is dead burnt gypsum. Suitable acrylate polymers are exemplified, and the compositions may also contain an emulsifying agent and conventional additives such as setting accelerators or retarders. The compositions may be used for conventional building purposes and also to make pottery moulds and medical plaster casts, and to coat flexible and non-flexible substrates.ALSO:Flexible sheets of expanded polystyrene, and sheets of wood fibre or chip board, blockboard or asbestos board, are coated with a plaster composition comprising conventional plaster solids and an aqueous dispersion of an acrylate homo- or -co-polymer giving a Peroz film hardness up to 100.
