Abstract

1,111,634. Mechanical seals. ETABLISSEMENTS POMPES GUINARD. 13 Feb., 1967 [17 Feb., 1966], No. 6775/67. Heading F2B. In a mechanical seal for a pump the rotary bush 3 is held against a fixed bush 1 by a spring 4 placed under an initial stress before the fixed bush is fitted and is driven by means of lugs 11 and grooves 10 which are so placed as to engage one another as soon as the parts of the seal are fitted, before the spring is compressed into its operating position. The spring 4 is held in its initial compressed state in a carrier 12 and is brought to its final compressed state by a cap 19. The spring urges the rotary bush into sealing engagement through an intermediate member 15, 17 which serves to retain a secondary seal 18. Cooling is effected by fins 21A on the rotary bush 3 which pump cooling fluid in the direction of arrow 23 from inlet 22.
