Abstract

1,111,561. Magnetic separators. PLESSEYUK Ltd. 11 Dec., 1964 [12 Dec., 1963], No. 49183/63. Heading B2J. [Also in Division H1] A single-piece magnet structure for use as a separator device in a circulating oil feed line of an i.c. engine has at least three zones of alternate magnetic polarity, its profile in section through the zones such that each zone is associated with a projecting portion, the successive portions defining between them troughs across which the external magnetic flux of the magnetic path is concentrated and into which magnetic matter is collected when the structure is positioned in the oil feed line. The structure is formed of a single piece of sintered barium ferrite, alternate zones of the piece being magnetized with opposite magnetic polarity. In Fig. 3, the profile of the structure in longitudinal section is made up of a series of part-circular valleys 32 and cusps 33. In a modification Fig. 2 (not shown), the profile in longitudinal section is made up of a series of triangular teeth.
