Abstract

1,111,294. Supporting diathermy electrodes. SIEMENS-REINIGER-WERKE A.G. 19 July, 1965 [18 July, 1964], No. 30675/65. Heading A5R. [Also in Division A4] A support arm assembly for diathermy electrodes comprises a parallelogram arm 2, having a weight compensating spring 9, pivoted on a housing 1 about horizontal and vertical axes 7, 8, 4 and articulated through a double joint angle piece 20, permitting pivoting about horizontal and vertical axes 19, 2], to a second arm 22 which is bent at right angles and supports an electrode 35 at its free end. The parallelogram arm comprises a tube 5 and a strut 6 inside the tube, the tube and strut being pivotal about horizontal axes 7, 8 respectively on an angle piece 3 which is pivotal about a vertical axis 4 relative to the housing. The other ends of the tube and strut are pivotally connected to an element 16 on which the angle piece 20 is pivotal about a vertical axis 19. One portion of the second arm 22 is pivotal about a horizontal shaft 23 on the angle piece 20 and the other portion is connected to the electrode 35 through connecting pieces 31, 32 which permits pivotal adjustment about mutually perpendicular axes 33, 34. The spring 9 is arranged on the strut 6 and connected between the strut and the tube. The strut is frictionally slidable in a clip 13 secured to the tube, the frictional effect of the clip being adjustable by a screw 14 to vary the compensation of the spring 9 for electrodes of differing weights. The second arm is secured in adjusted position by the engagement of a manually releasable spring-urged lever (27,. Figure 3) on the arm in one of a series of detents (25) in the shaft 23.
