Abstract
1,111,281. Valves. SPEEDWELL RE. SEARCH Ltd. 29 April, 1966 [3 Feb., 1965], No. 4595/65. Heading F2V. A disc-shaped valve closure-member 48 with a peripheral seal 50 of P.T.F.E. is pivotally mounted on an arm 47 for hinged movement by a shaft 20 on which is threaded a hand wheel 30; the closure member 48 controls fluid flow from an inlet 41 to an outlet 16. The shaft 20 carries a roller 35 which coacts with a Z-shaped slot 34 in the adjacent casing 22; the positions of the roller and slot may be inter-changed. To open the valve, for example, the wheel 30 is turned counter-clockwise whereby the spindle 20 is moved axially to similarly move the closure member 48 from the seat 49, whereupon the roller 35 lies at one end of one of the axial portions of the slot 34 and so prevents the spindle from further axial motion but permitting rotation thereof. The roller 35 traverses the transverse limb of the slot 34 when the wheel is further turned and swings the closure member out of alignment with the seat 49. Upon the roller reaching the other end of the transverse limb of the slot still further rotation of the wheel 30 again causes axial movement of the shaft 20 and the roller to travel to the closed end of the other axial portion of the slot. The valve is closed by the reverse process. In another form, the axial and rotational movements of the valve are effected by separate controls acting on the shaft 20. The seat may embody two annular concentric seals. The valve housing is formed by two circular or triangular mild-steel elements 10, 11 that are lined with titanium sheet 14, 15, which latter encloses the seat 49 and inlet port.
