Abstract
1,111,011. Toothed gearing. MESSER - SCHMITT A.G. 7 May, 1965 [4 Aug., 1964], No. 19275/65. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division F1] In a rotary-piston engine of epitrochoidal type, to control the planetary rotation of the piston so that the speed of the output shaft is reduced to that of the piston without the fitting of reduction gearing, a member 2, Fig. 2, secured to the output shaft 1 is formed with three equally spaced arms slidably mounting shafts 7 each carrying a planet gear 10 meshing with a spur gear 12 secured to the side part 3 of the casing 4. Each shaft 7 is formed with an eccentric 17 slidable in a bore 8 in the piston 9 which is independently mounted on the output shaft 1. Instead of the gearing 10, 12 and the member 2 being adjacent one another on one side of the piston as shown, they may be symmetrically arranged on opposite sides of a central piston flange. In an alternative embodiment, the eccentrics 17, Fig. 8 are slidable in parallel bores in a member separate from the piston located outside the thermal area of the engine but positively connected to the piston. Instead of the eccentrics 17 the shafts 7 may be cranked. To take up any backlash that may arise after a period of use on the tooth flanks, the spur wheel 12 is formed with a flange which is secured to the side part 3 by means of bolts 14 adjustable with respect to arcuate slots in the flange.
