1,110,824. Applicator for cosmetic or therapeutic substances. J. W. P. FAINT. 1 June, 1966 [1 June, 1965], No. 23219/65. Heading A5R. [Also in Division A4] A device for treating surfaces, for example the skin of human beings, comprises a resilient member made of an absorbent material and formed to present at least one concave face, the concavity being formed and retained during operation of the device by a centrally disposed retaining member thereby to permit the device to be used as a suction cup in the cosmetic or therapeutic application of liquids, creams, polishes and/or cleansing or scouring substances to the surface being treated. The resilient member may be made of polyurethane, foam-rubber or surgical felt. As illustrated, the device consists of a resilient member 1 in the form of a sponge having a concave face 2 which is formed and maintained by a retaining member 3 secured to a backing member 4 which serves also as a gripping or holding member when the device is in use.
