Abstract

1,110,766. Winding yarn. JAMES MACKIE & SONS Ltd. 14 July, 1965 [20 July, 1964], No. 29489/64. Heading DID. Yarn winding apparatus has the spindle 10 for the take-up package 14 driven through a slipping clutch 36, 38, there being control means-e.g. levers 66, 70 and 72 and spring 42 -to adjust the clutch so as to increase the value of the torque load at which the clutch begins to slip in accordance with the increase in size of the package 14 but at such a rate that the yarn is wound at a diminishing tension. The growing package causes traverse guide 16, which is reciprocated by grooved roller 20, to be swung on shaft 80, thus also causing cam 76 to swing on shaft 80 to actuate lever 66. The clutch comprises plates 36, 38 urged together by spring 42 and sandwiching friction disc 40. The yarn is fed to package 14 at constant speed by haul pulleys which may be part of a double flyer two-for-one twisting arrangement.
