Abstract
A coloured lacquer or printing ink comprises a film-forming primary material such as ethyl or nitro-cellulose, a maleic resin or phenol-formaldehyde resin modified with rosin, a polyamide resin, a formaldehyde-melamine, formaldehydeurea or ketone-formaldehyde condensation product, polyvinyl acetate or an acrylic acid ester resin, and an alcoholic solution of an arylazo -cyclammonium salt of formula [A-N=N-B]\sJX\sK wherein A is an N-alkyl-thiazolyl or N-alkylbenzothiazolyl radical, optionally substituted, B is a p-aminoaryl radical, and X\sK is the anion of a strong inorganic or organic acid. Specified alcohols are methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, butanol, propylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, and ethylene glycol monomethyl or -ethyl ether. In Examples 1-26 different dyestuffs of the above formula are made up into blue printing inks with ethanol and a phenol-formaldehyde resin known as "Printan G" (Registered Trade Mark). In Example 27 a blue lacquer consists of the dye-stuff, butanol, ethanol, ethyl acetate, nitrocellulose and an acrylic acid ester known as "Acronal 4F" (Registered Trade Mark). Example 28 discloses a blue printing ink consisting of the dyestuff, ethanol isopropanol, benzine, water, the polyamide resin known as "Versamid" (Registered Trade Mark), the phenolic resin "Printan G" and a small quantity of the wetting agent coconut oil fatty acid di-b -hydroxyethylamide.ALSO:A coloured lacquer or printing ink comprises a film-forming primary material such as tannin or the natural resins shellac or manila copal and an alcoholic solution of an arylazo-cycl-ammonium salt of formula <FORM:1110760/C4-C5/1> where in A is an N-alkyl-thiazolyl or N-alkylbenzo-thiazolyl radical, optionally substituted, B is p-aminoaryl radical, and X- is the anion of a strong inorganic or organic acid. The alcohol may be an aliphatic alcohol such as methanol or ethanol, a glycol such as propylene glycol, a glycol monoalkyl ether such as ethylene glycol mono-methyl or ethyl -ether or an araliphatic alcohol such as benzyl alcohol or a mixture thereof. Wetting agents such as coconut oil fatty acid di-b -hydroxyethylamide may also be included.
