Abstract
1,110,623. Biaxially stretched polyamide films. NIPPON RAYON KABUSHIKI KAISHA. 28 Jan., 1966 [28 Jan., 1965; 25 Feb., 1965], No. 4004/66. Heading B5B. A polyamide film is drawn simultaneously in the longitudinal and transverse directions with a draw speed of 6000-100,000%/min. at a ratio of longitudinal to transverse draw speeds from 2 : 1-0À5 : 1, at a draw ratio of 16 : 1- 4 : 1, and at a temp. from 70‹ up to 35‹ C. below the film m.p., but below 180‹ C. Draw speed and draw ratio are defined. A polyamide film which has been simultaneously drawn in the longitudinal and transverse directions is claimed per se. Suitable polyamides are poly-#-caproamide, polyhexamethylene adipamide, polyhexamethylene sebacamide, poly-11-amino undecanamide, polylaurineamide and copolymers or mixtures thereof, which may be up to 25% crystalline. The stretched film may be heat-set and/or heat-shrunk at 120‹ C. up to 10‹ C. below the film m.p. When heatshrinking, this may be biaxial or uniaxial by restraining transverse shrinkage. Suitably 1- 10% shrinkage in either direction occurs with a longitudinal to transverse ratio of shrinking speeds of 0À5 : 1-2À0 : 1. The starting film may be plasticized.
