Abstract
1,110,308. Jet mills. W. R. GRACE & CO. 3 Oct., 1966 [4 Oct., 1965], No. 44123/66. Heading B2A. A fluid energy mill comprises a cylindrical grinding chamber 2, Fig. 2, a material inlet 4 and a gas inlet 6 communicating with the guiding chamber 2 at its periphery and a material outlet 8 also communicating with the chamber. A tubular baffle 9, which may be rotatable, is connected with the outlet, extends into the guiding chamber, is closed at one end 12, and has slots or passageways 11, Fig. 3, on its tubular surface, which may each be angled to a radius of the baffle and be rectangular square or circular. Since the only exit from the guiding chamber is through the slots, the material, e.g. silica get particles has to reverse direction to escape from the chamber 2 and is thus more likely to be comminuted.
