Abstract
A liquid storage vessel is produced by impregnating timber with a thermosetting synthetic resin material so that the resin penetrates the interstices between the timber cells and sets hard therein to form a key before or after, erecting a core structure of the storage vessel of the timber, and applying a thermosetting synthetic resin material to the core structure to form a sealant skin thereon keyed to the first applied resin. Different degrees of impregnation may be achieved by varying the viscosity of the synthetic resin material, the type of timber and the quantity of moisture within the timber. The synthetic resin coating material may be reinforced e.g. with glass fibre or glass woven cloth. The synthetic resin material may be a polyester or an epoxy resin and may include as a catalyst methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, and as a curing accelerator, cobalt naphthenate. Impregnation may be effected over a period of up to twelve hours. The timber core structure may be reinforced with steel supports.
