Abstract

1,109,753. Electromagnetic stirring. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 Oct., 1965 [16 Oct., 1964], No. 42306/ 64. Heading B1C. Three or more poles, the described embodiment having four poles 4-7 of an electromagnetic furnace stirrer are disposed along a yoke structure 3 and have windings 8 - 11 arranged and wired to produce a travelling magnetic field when connected to a multiphase supply. Windings 8, 10 on poles 4, 6 respectively are connected in series to one phase of a two-phase supply but wound on opposite hands, and windings 9, 11 on poles 5, 7 are similarly connected to the other phase. The yoke comprises laminations sandwiched between side beams and the poles comprise spaced laminations assembled by studs. The windings are made of hollow conductors along which cooling water or other fluid is passed.
