A casing 29 has a closable opening 30, 31 through which a clutch 4-9 can be withdrawn as a unit after a shaft 13 has been axially withdrawn through bore 20 of gear shaft 19 when a cover 27 has been,removed; the clutch cover 9 is connected to flywheel 1 and carries a flexible diaphragm 7 engageable by a release-bearing 12 to release the clutch. In Fig. 3, not shown, the flywheel is removable with cover 9 and the shaft 13 is short and connected by a splined collar to the gear shaft, the shaft 13 being pushed into a bore in crank-shaft 3 to enable the clutch to be removed.
