Abstract
Novel compounds of the formula CH3CH2-Q-CH2CH2Br (wherein Q is alkylenedioxymethylene of up to 7 carbon atoms) are prepared from 1-bromo-pentanone-(3) by transketalization or, for 2-(2-bromoethyl)2-ethyl-1,3-dioxolane, by forming the cyclic ethylene ketal of an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl alpha-propionyl acetate, reducing this and treating the so-formed 2 - (2 - hydroxyethyl) - 2 - ethyl-1,3-dioxolane with PBr3. 1-Bromo-pentanone-(3) is prepared from ethyl vinyl ketone and HBr or from propionyl bromide and ethene.
