Abstract
1,3-Dienes are polymerized in aqueous emulsion using as catalyst of chelate complex compound of trivalent chromium, cobalt or gold, tetravalent cerium or divalent copper with a 1,3-dicarbonyl compound, or mixtures of said chelate complex compounds, in the absence of organic halogen compounds. The 1,3-di-carbonyl compound may be an ester of acetoacetic acid or of benzoyl-acetic acid with a linear or branched alkanol containing one to four carbon atoms, or acetylacetone or benzoyl acetone-cocatalysts e.g. ammonia and/or a water-soluble amine may also be present as may emulsifiers, buffers and regulators.
