Abstract

1,108,479. Rollers; universal joints. HALL HARDING Ltd. 9 Dec., 1965 [16 Dec., 1964], No. 51188/64. Heading F2U A resilient plug 6 moulded to a shaft 4 has annular ribs 14 which are deformed by a surrounding tube 2 and are shaped peripherally to permit insertion but to resist axial removal. The plug 6 may be of nylon or other natural or synthetic elastomer and may be allowed to cure and expand prior to force fitting into tube 2 or may be allowed to cure after insertion in tube 2 whereby on expansion the ribs 14 deform. To assist curing the plug may be inserted in water, holes 12 enabling a greater surface to be exposed; steam may be blown through holes 12 when the plug is cured in tube 2. The tube 2 may be a roller with a shaft 4 and plug 6 at each end.
