Abstract

The invention provides copper complex reactive dyes of formula <FORM:1108297/C4-C5/1> in which R is a phenylene or sulphophenylene residue, X is a chlorine or bromine atom or a quaternary amino or hydrazino group, Z is a hydrogen atom or a sulphonic acid group, m and n are each positive numbers which may be the same or different and Y is an alkyl or aryl group, an etherified hydroxyl or mercapto group or an amino group which may be substituted, the dyes being prepared by reacting a metallizable azo compound of formula <FORM:1108297/C4-C5/2> in which the symbols are as above and R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 or 2 carbon atoms in any desired sequence with an agent yielding copper and a triazine compound of formula <FORM:1108297/C4-C5/3> in which A is a chlorine or bromine atom, Y is a chlorine or bromine atom or a substituent as above to form a monohalogenated or dihalogenated triazine condensation product, a halogen atom in the dihalogenated product being replaced by condensation with an alcohol, a phenol, a naphthol, a mercaptan, an amine or ammonia, and if necessary the halogen atom in a monohalogenated triazine dyestuff is replaced by condensation with a tertiary amine or a hydrazine having a tertiary nitrogen atom. The dyes provide blue-violet-red shades used particularly in cellulose materials.
