Abstract
1,107,980. Evaporators, falling-film type. HCH. BERTRAMS A.G. 30 March, 1966 [2 April, 1965], No. 14003/66. Heading B1B. Liquor, e.g. a 50% solution of caustic soda, is concentrated in a falling-film evaporator tube 1 surrounded by a heating-jacket 3c defining an annular channel 9 which is not more than 5 millimetres wide between the tube and the jacket, the channel being supplied with liquid heating- medium (e.g. a molten salt) from an annular chamber 8, surrounding a lower section of tube 1, which chamber is of greater radial width than the annular channel 9, and the heating-medium being withdrawn through an upper chamber 5 also of greater radial width than the annular channel. Liquor to be concentrated is introduced through inlet 2a, flows over the slotted upper end of tube 1, and flows down the inside of the tube in the form of a film. Heating-liquid, e.g. at 450‹C., is pumped through pipe 10 into chamber 8 which has a taper-shaped inner wall 7a so that chamber 8 acts as an annular diffusor leading to channel 9. The temperature of the film of liquor may increase from 140‹C. to 400‹C. as it flows down the tube. Tube 1 is provided with means 4 for compensating expansion. A plurality of evaporator tubes, operated in parallel, may be employed. in which case the heating-liquid will be forced through the jackets of all the tubes by a single pump.
