Abstract

1,106,754. Ammunition belt for machine gun; ammunition. B. W. K. GOODE. 30 Sept., 1966 [11 Oct., 1965], No. 43119/65. Headings F3A and F3C. An ammunition belt 1 is substantially constructed from flexible, resilient, non-metallic sheet material and is provided integrally with a plurality of ammunition pockets 2. The sheet material may comprise synthetic rubber, neoprene, or a plastics material, the belt being moulded therefrom. A projectile is housed within each pocket, the forward end of the projectile engaging a guide plug (Figs. 4, 5, 6, not shown) and the rear end, in the case of the constructions of Figs. 5 and 6, being encased in a sabot. The propellent charge, percussive cap, anvil and rear plug are also housed in the pockets. The belt may be used with a conventional weapon in which normal cartridges are mounted in the belt but it may also be used with a chamberless weapon in which the pockets act as the chamber of the weapon. As shown in Fig. 3 the belt 1 is fed by a rotor 6 which, in the firing position of a round clamps the belt against a hinged locking plate 5. In a further construction (Fig. 8, not shown) a belt feeding and clamping device comprises a lever and locking plate combination. The belt may be strengthened by the addition of some metallic material.
