Abstract

Apparatus for winding yarn packages-for example cheeses-has the yarn traverse guide at each reversal brought to rest under an acceleration the average value of which is numerically greater than the average value of the acceleration under which the guide is brought from rest back to the traversing speed. A cam, in the form of a cylinder having a suitably shaped groove in its surface, and a cam follower connected to the yarn guide may be used, with the cylinder having its axis parallel to the direction of reciprocation of the guide. The groove may be composed of straight portions joined by parabolic portions at the reversals.
