1,105,918. Tool for making pompons. A. J. CIROLI. 7 Sept., 1965 [8 Sept., 1964], No. 38270/65. Heading B6G. A tool of unitary construction for making pompons comprises a body portion having a curved top edge surface and a bottom edge surface about which successive turns of yarn may be wound, holding means in the bottom surface to keep the turns of yarn in closer spacing -at the bottom surface than at the top surface and means integral with the body portion for anchoring the yarn at one end of the body portion. In Fig. 1, the tool consists of a body portion 2 having curved top edge surface provided with grooves 8 and a handle portion 4. The bottom edge surface 10 of the 'body portion is provided with a recess 12. The tool is provided with a series of grooves 14 in its major front and back faces, alternate grooves emanating from a common point in the recess, the other grooves being shorter and located adjacent top edge 6 giving a scalloped effect. The end of the body portion 2 opposite the handle portion 4 is provided, Fig. 2 (not shown), with extension 20 having a notch 22 forming a lead-in to the groove 8. The handle portion 4 has a notch 26 at 90 degrees to notch 22. In using the tool, an end of the yarn is secured in notch 22 and extended across the face 16 of the body portion and hooked around the handle by notch 26. The yarn is then extended behind and under the body into recess 12, brought up and around the body portion in the grooves 14 nearest the handle, and successive turns are wound, spaced according to the grooves. After several layers have been wound the yarn is cut behind the handle and the ends of the now separated piece extending across the front of the tool are brought together and knitted. The turns of yarn are cut along groove 8 to free the yarn from the tool, thereby producing a pompon. Multi-coloured yarn or several short sections of differently coloured yarn may be used. The pompon may be used to make ornamental articles, dolls or accessories for clothing, and may be attached to a wire frame.
