Loose leaves, brochures, magazines &c. which are perforated adjacent a binding edge 10 for placement over filing rings, prongs &c. of a binding means are punched with a versatile pattern of perforations so that they will fit over the filing rings &c. of a large number of different binding means. In the example shown, a leaf having a binding edge 10 of from 165 mm. to 210 mm., has the filing perforations symmetrically spaced from the top and bottom edges 11 and a dimension x of about 6 mm. wide, and are disposed such that the perforations 1 are 149 mm. apart, the perforations 2 are 114 mm. apart, and the perforations 3 are 59 mm. apart, corresponding, respectively, to the distances A, B and C. The perforations 1, 2 and 3 have respective lengths a, b and c of 6 mm., 6 mm., and 13À5 mm. Preferably, the width x is 7 mm., the distance y is 7À5 mm., and the smaller perforations are rounded at the corners. In a modification (Fig. 2) for leaves &c. having a binding edge longer than 210 mm., the perforations (1) are the same as in Fig. 1, but at a spacing (A<SP>1</SP>) of 159 mm.; the perforations (2<SP>1</SP>) each have a length (b<SP>1</SP>) of 10 mm. and are spaced apart a distance (B<SP>1</SP>) of 106 mm.; the perforations (3<SP>1</SP>) each have a length (C<SP>1</SP>) of 11 mm. and are spaced apart a distance (C<SP>1</SP>) of 64 mm.; a perforation (100) has a length (m) of 6 mm. and is mid-length of the binding edge (10); perforations (4) each have a length (d) of 6 mm. and are spaced apart a distance (D) of 210 mm.; and perforations (5) each have a length (e) of 6 mm. and are spaced apart a distance (E) of 234 mm. In the case of accessories, which are leaves such as index sheets, dividers, front or end sheets, and sheets containing pockets, all of which are of strong paper, plastics materials, or board, the versatility can be increased by providing additional perforations (Fig. 3).
