1,105,005. Cutting-apparatus; seaming non- metallic sheet material. PRATT MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. 2 Sept., 1966 No. 39243/66. Headings B4B and B5K. Apparatus for producing parallel movement of knife blades 33, 133, Figs. 1 and 4, for cutting packaging material between wrapped items W1, W2, W3, or of blades 233, 333, Fig. 5, for heat sealing the web sections S between the wrapped items, comprises a holder 26 for one blade, e.g. 33, supported by pins 25, 125 for causing orbital movement of the holder 26 in a planetary path around the axes of gears 15, 115, the gear 15 being keyed to a drive shaft 13, and a holder 28 for the other blade, e.g. 133, supported by pins 27, 127 for causing orbital movement of the holder 28 in a planetary path around the axes of gears 16, 116 meshing with the gears 15, 115 respectively, the holders being maintained in facing relationship with one another during their orbital movement by a rod 38 which passes through a bore 37 of the holder 26 and is supported by trunnions 39, the rod also passing slidably through a bore 45 in the holder 28, the arrangement being such that in the operation of the apparatus the holder 26 can tilt about the trunnions 39 under the restraint of springs (41, 43), Fig: 2 (not shown), and the holder 28 can slide back and forth on the rod. Each holder has a flat face 29, or 129, and a recess 30, or 130, to accommodate a severed item. Each holder is in the form of a segment 31, or 131, to which the blade 33, or' 133, is clamped by a removable segment 34, or 134, which is held in position by bolts 35, or 135. The blades are radially adjustable by means of bolts 36, 136 respectively.
