Abstract

1,104,561. Mooring ships. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 29 Dec., 1965 [12 Jan., 1965] No. 1338/65. Headings B7A and B7S. [Also in Division E1] A single point mooring for ships comprises a tensioned buoy 11 moored to the sea bed and which incorporates a pipeline swivel 41 connected to the shore by pipeline 42, a floating jetty 13 which includes bollards 29 for attaching the mooring ropes of a ship and which supports a pipeline terminal for cargo transference connected to the pipeline swivel 41, and rigid connecting struts 14 for attaching the jetty to swivel 40 of the buoy so that the jetty may both move around the buoy, in a horizontal plane and in a vertical plane relative to the buoy according to tide or wave motion. The tensioned buoy does not rise and fall with the tide and the flexible linkage between the jetty and the buoy is provided by flexible joints 27 at both ends of each connecting strut 14. In a modification the buoy is replaced by a piled structure built up from the sea bed.
