[Also in Division B7] A cord 13 is wound about a drum 2 rotatably mounted on a shaft 1 carried by a member 9 secured to the ground by pegs 10, 6, 11. A self-propelled mowing machine attached to the cord is constrained to follow a spiral path while unwinding the cord, the drum being prevented from rotating by a ratchet and pawl device 16 until a position is reached where the cord is secured to the drum, when the drum then rotates, allowing the machine to follow a circular course. The cord may be attached to the drum at any point along its length by means of a clip.
