Abstract
1,103,169. Hedge cutters; harvesting tea. AIRACE Ltd. 2 July, 1965 [22 July, 1964], No. 29566/64. Headings A1E and A1F. A hedge cutting machine particularly for a hedge of tea bushes comprises a frame 1 propelled along the top of the hedge by means of an endless belt 3 which runs over a series of rollers 4 mounted on the frame and a roller 5 driven from an engine 11. A cutter head 12 is pivotally mounted at 13 on frame 1 and comprises a helical blade cutter 15 co-operating with a fixed knife 17 the cutter 15 being driven through chain and sprocket gearing by the belt 3. The cut leaves are directed into a tray 30 by means of plates 31, 33. A bar 36 carried by the cutter head 12 serves to depress young shoots, and side plates 34 move any side shoots into the path of the cutter. A guide handle 21 is provided at the side of the machine and may be provided with a throttle lever controlling engine 11. A reciprocating or a continuous chain cutter may replace the cutter 15 and the cut leaves may be directed via an endless belt into receptacles travelling at the side of the machine.
