Abstract
1,102,480. Automatic exchange systems. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 12 Sept., 1966 [17 Sept., 1965], No. 39699/65. Heading H4K. In a system employing cross-barswitches operating on the self-steering principle, such as that described in Specification 890,235, bothway junctions are provided and the relay sets terminating such junctions are arranged to avoid " clash " between incoming and outgoing calls and to give preference to the former. Idle junctions are marked by negative potential on wire RR. When a junction is selected by a junction marker JMKR for use on an outgoing call, connections are made over the switch train to the relay group BWRG, and relay K energizes over the P wire, followed by switching relay JG, the junction BWJ being disconnected from the incoming transmission group ITRG. On an incoming call, relay PK is energized from ITRG and connects up K in a local circuit, thus completing a direct incoming path independent of rectifiers MR1, MR2. If, however, the junction has already been selected for an outgoing call, the operation of K is delayed by earth on wire KS and the earth on the P wire is diverted over wire BW to JMKR to initiate the selection of a fresh junction. The removal of earth from wire KS allows K to operate.
