Abstract
Gaseous ethylene is polymerized by feeding to the inlet of a tubular reactor and carrying out the polymerization at a pressure of at least 800 atms., a temperature of up to 400 DEG C., in the presence of at least one catalyst and introducing liquid ethylene into the reaction mixture at one or more points along the reactor. The catalyst may be oxygen or a solution of dilauryl peroxide in n-hexane and it may be added to the gaseous and/or liquid ethylene. The polymerization may be continuous. The polyethylene produced may be used to form blown films.
