Abstract

The transfer of a wet fibre mat-e.g. a paper web-from a Fourdrinier wire to a pick-up conveyor is aided by means of a stationary suction box mounted in the loop of the pick-up conveyor and having a convex curved face contacted by the conveyor. The box may comprise a hollow perforated cylinder or a sector thereof. The conveyor may comprise a wear-resistant incompressible pervious belt of polyamide or polyester fibres with optionally an outer belt of an absorbent material, e.g. a felt.
