Motor power plant.-A reversible marine turbine installation designed for a wide range of loads and speeds comprises a high-pressure section 3 and two low-pressure sections 4, 5 geared to a single propeller shaft 6 through reduction gearing 8, 36, 37, 9, the pinions 8, 36, 37 being preferably of different diameters, and the lowpressure-sections are adapted to receive motive fluid from different working stages of the high-pressure section. For full speed ahead, steam flows through the high-pressure stage 10 of section 3 and then divides into two streams, one of which flows through a pipe 20 and port 21 to the low-pressure section 4, while the other flows through the intermediate-pressure stage 11 and then through a pipe 22 and port 23 to the low-pressure section 5 where it flows in parallel through the two stages 17. The port 21 is so located'that it by-passes the first stages of section 4. For cruising speed, the valves in the connecting pipes are manipulated so that steam flows through the stages 10, 11, pipe 20, port 21<a>, and all the ahead stages of section 4. By manipulating the valves 24, 26, 27, other combinations are obtainable. The reversing elements 15, 28, 30 may be combined as follows. For maximum speed, the steam flows through the stage 15 and then divides into three streams, two of which flow in parallel through the stages 30, while the third flows through the stage 28. For low speed, the stages 30 are cut out; for intermediate speed, the stage 28 is cut out. For emergency use, high-pressure steam inlets 41, 42, 43, 44 are provided.
