Abstract

1,100,992. Selective printing. NASHUA CORPORATION. 18 Jan., 1966 [5 Feb., 1965], No. 2255/66. Heading B6F. A manual device for printing on a label strip consisting of a gummed layer 32 and a protective backing 30 wound from a roll 24 comprises a housing 16 on which is pivoted a hand lever 18, which when depressed raises a printing carriage 72, moves an ink pad into contact with type 74, and feeds forward the strip by means of projections 118 engaging perforations in the backing 30, which is bent round a jaw 48. On releasing the lever, the carriage 72 is lowered to print on the web, while the feed element 110 carrying the projections is guided backwards below ratchet teeth 126 out of contact with the strip, backward movement of which is prevented by a pin 134. The type is carried on a plurality of endless belts 66, each belt carrying a plurality of type face and mounted on a pair of square bushings 78, 79, the latter being turnable by a key 88 to select the type. The type faces on each belt are duplicated, so that when a type face is in printing position the duplicate is at the top of the belt and can be viewed through a window 80.
