Abstract

1,100,342. Weighing apparatus. S.S. FREEMAN. Jan. 25, 1965 [jan. 23, 1964], No. 3027/64. Heading G1W. A weighing machine in which downward deflection of a weigh pan 12 against the action of springs 19 actuates a rack and pinion mechanism to rotate a dial by an amount corresponding to the load on the weigh pan 12 is characterized in that the weigh pan is arranged to be supported at right angles to the body of the machine during weighing operations and to be rotated to a body abutting position Fig. 2 (not shown) when not in use, the weigh pan 12 being of a generally rectangular dish shape and provided at one corner with a pouring lip 13b. The weigh pan is supported on a platform 11 suspended by two bars 14 which are rotatably mounted in box-shaped pivots 15 fixed to the lower ends of an inverted Y-shaped slide 16a. The slide 16a having slots 20 to engage with guide rivets 21 mounted on the back plate of the body is arranged to move downwards in accordance with the load in the pan against the action of the springs 19 attached at their upper ends to the body and at their lower ends to the slide, ball bearings being provided between the slide and the back plate to avoid friction. The rock of the rack and pinion mechanism is arranged on the slide to rotate a spindle of the dial which is viewed through a lens 17 together with a fixed pointer.
