Abstract

1,199,501. Composition for rendering substrates hydrophobic. BOEING CO. 2 Feb., 1968 [2 Feb., 1967], No. 5497/68. Heading C3T. [Also in Division B2] A composition for rendering windscreens hydrophobic comprises by weight 4-95% isopropanol, 95-5% water and 0À025-10% of a polysiloxane obtained by mixing stoichiometric quantities of (A) a polyaminoalkyl methyl dimethoxy silane and (B) an hydroxy-terminated dimethylpolysiloxane and sufficient HCl or acetic, formic, lactic or oleic acid to neutralize the amino groups. Preferably (B) has MW about 2000 and a viscosity under 100 cS/25‹ C. In the examples, (A) is N-(dimethoxy methyl silylisobutyl) ethylene diamine and the acid is acetic acid, and methanol or a polyoxyethylenated alkylphenol surfactant may also be present in the composition.
