Abstract
1,199,458. Mixing process and apparatus. W. LODIGE, F. LODIGE and J. LUCKE. 6 Dec., 1967 [11 Jan., 1967], No. 55528/67. Heading B1C. An apparatus for wetting a fluent solid (e.g. for treating wood particles with glue) comprises and succession of chambers 10, 14, 17, 18, 19 having rotatable shafts 11 carrying knives 12, the shaft in at least one of the chambers other than the last being hollow as at 15 for admission of the liquid through tubes 16. There may be shorter and longer knives 12a, 12b arranged round the shaft so that each tube 16 (the terminations of which have notches 16a) follows a short knife 12a and is followed by a longer knife 12b. The ends of these are broadened at 12c and in any chamber there may be knives conveying in opposite directions, the majority in successive chambers conveying in different directions so that the material takes a zig-zag path through the apparatus. Shafts 11, 15 may rotate in the same or opposite directions in successive chambers and their speeds imay be different, but are preferably such that the material forms a ring on the inner surface of the chambers, the mixing tools being arranged to sweep the whole surface. Feed may be effected through a worm 8 the speed of which is steplessly adjustable, and discharge through an adjustably weighted flap valve 21. A heat exchange fluid may be passed through housing1.
