Abstract

1,198,568. Glow discharge lamps; cathoderay tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 May, 1968 [1 June, 1967; 29 Sept., 1967], No. 25715/68. Heading H1D. A discharge tube includes first and second systems of elongated conductors 4, 5 or 14, 15 which cross each other and are held relative to each other by an insulating plate 1 or frame 11 of anodically oxidized aluminium which is apertured near the cross-points of the conductors. In Fig. 1 the strip electrodes 4 and 5, which form a cross-bar addressing system in a gas discharge display tube, are formed by metallization of the plate 1. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown) transparent metal strip electrodes are applied to two glass plates the borders of which are stuck by enamel to a glass frame surrounding the plate 1. In Fig. 4 the wires 14 and 15, which may form control and screen grids in a cathode-ray tube, are supported in grooves 12 and 13 of different depths in a frame 11 having a single large aperture 16. In a modification of this arrangement, forming a display device, the wires are supported in grooves of different depths in a plate having an aperture adjacent each cross-point.
