Abstract

Ellipses are constructed by using two sheets 50, 51, each sheet containing a family of circular curves, the diameters of the curves of each family increasing in arithmetical progression and having a common tangent point 8 or 9, the two sheets being superposed with the centres of the curves on a common axis 12 and with one family of curves displaced 180 degrees with respect to the other family, so that the points of intersection of the curves form a series of ellipses. One or both of the sheets are made of transparent plastic foil. One or both of the sheets may be in stencil form, Fig. 10, containing slots 102 . . . 104 &c., corresponding to a family of curves and having a hole 101 at the tangent point. Longitudinal slots 90 are provided along the axis of symmetry of the curves.
