Abstract
1,197,804. 3,5-Dimethyl phenol. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJN.V. 28 Sept., 1967 [30 Sept., 1966], No. 61721/69. Divided out of 1,197,802. Heading C2C. 3,5-Dimethyl phenol is prepared by catalytically splitting off methane from isophorone in the gaseous phase using a catalyst containing phosphoric acid and one or more of the metals iron, cobalt, aluminium and calcium, in particular in the form of an iron-aluminium phosphate or a cobalt-calcium phosphate. The process is preferably carried out at 600-650‹ C.
