Abstract

1,197,321. Clasifying dry cleaning solvent. K. S. ARVANITAKIS and G. GOUTOS. 23 Aug., 1967 [29 Sept., 1966], No. 38815/67. Heading B1D. Dry cleaning solvent is conveyed from the sump pump of a conventional dry cleaning machine (not shown) via pipe 20, Fig. 4, to pump 16 and hence to a primary filter 66, which filters a major fraction of the solvent which is re-delivered to the machine via conduit 110, 118; the minor fractions flows down to secondary filter 94 and is returned to the machine via conduits 104, 110, 118. Adsorbent powder may be added to the solvent. As described, incoming solvent is splashed against dome 34 by pipe 42 to suppress turbulence. Filter 66 also illustrated in Fig. 2, (not shown) comprises a plurality of filter discs 68 rotatably mounted on shaft (72) and outflow tube (70). When the discs 68 rotate they are cleaned by brushes (86). Purging the filter. While clothes are being unloaded from the machine the filter 66 is cleaned, by rotating discs 68. Foreign particles thus settle to the bottom of the tank, and pump 16 is then energised, valve 116 being closed, to circulate the solvent through the tank. Valve 116 is opened and solvent drawn from the machine, powdered activated carbon being added by a conventional injector (14), Fig. 1 (not shown): the powder coats the discs 68 of filter 66, which is thereby regenerated. Removing foreign matter from the apparatus. This is done at 4-8 week intervals. The machine is shut down and live steam is introduced through pipe 134 to force solvent through filter 94, outlet 138, pipe 140 to a condenser 146 and to a separator 150. Separator 150, see Fig. 6 (not shown) allows the solvent and liquified steam to separate by gravity. The inside of tank 18 is then cleaned manually. Fig. 8 (not shown) illustrates a carbon filter provided with a cooling coil (198) which is optionally connected to output pipe 118.
