1,197,273. Coating with Al. ADAM OPEL A.G. Jan.30, 1969 [Feb.15, 1968], No. 5185/69. Heading C7F. [Also in Division F1] A ferrous metal internal combustion engine poppet valve has its front face coated with a layer of Al or Al alloy by means of an electric-arc metal spraying process. The valve may be made of Fe- Cr alloy, and the use of an electric-arc causes the Al coating 13 to contain barrier-like films of oxide 14 which restrict diffusion of the base metal 10 of the valve into the Al layer.
