Abstract

[Also in Division H3] In a remote control or signalling circuit, a plurality of Zener diodes having different Zener voltages are connected in series with a supply N, switch contacts A ... C being bridged across each Zener diode so that the voltage across the series chain is indicative of the state of the respective switch contacts. As shown, the contacts A . . . C may be operated by motors, dampers, control valves or thermostats in an oil refinery or power station. The setting of respective contacts may be indicated by a graduated voltmeter G and appropriate contro functions may be performed by voltage-sensitive relays H or voltage-sensitive thyristor or transistor circuits J. The supply N may be A.C. or D.C.; in the former case, separate operation on the two half cycles may be achieved by a further plurality of Zener diodes in series opposition with those shown. The system is protected against excess voltage or current by a device F comprising a fuse, resistor and one or more Zener diodes.
