1,196,598. Preparation of 5-ketosebacic acid. GEIGY (U.K.) Ltd. 23 Nov., 1967 [21 Dec., 1966], No. 21515/68. Divided out of 1,196,594. Heading C2C. 5-Ketosebacic acid is prepared by treating cyclodec-5-enone, having the formula with ozone, and thermally oxidizing the ozonized material at an elevated temperature. The ozonization is preferably conducted in the presence of a solvent comprising an aliphatic alcohol or monocarboxylic acid having 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
