Abstract
1,195,418. Drying gases. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 3 Oct., 1967, No. 44995/67. Heading B1L. In a gas drying process employing C 2-8 -glycols or C 1-6 -alkanolamines as water absorbents, the used absorbent is regenerated for reuse by heating the loaded absorbent to a temperature below its decomposition point and passing a dry water-azeotroping substance, which is vapourized at that temperature and which is normally immiscible both with the absorbent and with water, below the surface of the absorbent, the azeotrope which is formed, and which boils at a temperature below that to which the absorbent is heated, being subsequently cooled to separate the entrained water from the azeotroping substance. Suitable absorbents are ethylene, diethylene and triethylene glycol and mono-and di-ethanolamine, while useful azeotroping substances are benzene, toluene, xylenes and ethyl butyrate.
