Abstract

1,195,441. Lead-acid battery containing a soluble phosphorus compound. ELTRA CORP. 15 June, 1967 [15 June, 1966], No. 12013/67. Heading H1B. Conductivity is improved in the positive plate of a lead-acid battery, which plate comprises PbO 2 active material on a lead-calcium alloy grid, by adding to the active material or to the electrolyte a phosphorus compound soluble in the electrolyte. In examples a positive plate is prepared by pasting a 0À065% Ca lead grid with PbO containing 25 wt. per cent of Pb 3 O 4 ; 85% phosphoric acid is added at a rate of 6À9 cc. per 1b. of PbO 2 , to the electrolyte after 3 charge/ discharge cycles, or at 3À4 cc. per 1b. of oxide to the paste before pasting.
