Abstract

1,195,322. Weighing apparatus. M.I. TJUTIKOVA, B.V. GRAN, E.I. SMIRNOV, O.S. IVANOV and S.A. PODDUBNY. Jan. 11, 1968, No. 1600/68. Heading G1W. A beam balance comprising a beam pivotally mounted on a fulcrum 11 is acted upon by a spring 12 in such a way that when the beam is in balance forces produced by the spring 12 act through the fulcrum and do not affect the balance of the beam whereas when the beam is out of balance the forces produced by the spring 12 tend to increase the deflection of the beam. As shown, the beam which is mounted by elastic pins 11 on a frame 10 in a casing 1, 8 is provided at its ends with scale pans 18. The spring 12 which is connected at its upper end to the beam 9 is connected at its lower end to a lever 13 which is pivotally mounted on the frame 10 and which is connected at its ends by springs 15, 16 to micrometer screws 5, 6 respectively, micrometer screw 5 being calibrated. With no load on the beam the micrometer screw 6 is adjusted to ensure the beam is in balance with the micrometer screw 5 set at zero. When a load is mounted on one scale pan and a counterweight on the other scale pan, the difference in weight, indicated by the resultant tilting of the beam under the influence of the load weight and spring is obtained either directly from the amount of tilt of the beam or indirectly by adjusting the micrometer screw 5 to restore balance and reading off the micrometer screw reading. When the beam is at balance, the balance position or tilt of the beam is indicated by a lamp-lens-mirror arrangement. The spring 12 may be a tension spring arranged so that its ends are above and below the fulcrum, respectively, or a compression spring having both its ends above the fulcrum Fig.4 (not shown).
