Abstract

1,195,311. Sealing thermoplastics containers. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO. 2 Jan., 1968 [3 Jan., 1967], No. 295/68. Heading B8C. [Also in Division B5] A method of sealing a cover sheet to a thermoplastic container having a mouth flange, includes heat-sealing the cover sheet to the flange and simultaneously deforming the latter. The deformation tightens the cover across the mouth to eliminate wrinkles &c. The sealing is effected by a projection 17 on a heated sealing tool deforming the flange and cover into a depression 15. The cover may be transparent, or of plastics and paper or metal foil, or laminates may be used and the container may be thermoformed from plastics sheet.
