A device for moving cylindrical objects 7 along runways 8 comprises a carriage 1 having a motor 4 for rotating a shaft 5 extending perpendicular to the direction of movement of the carriage, the end of the shaft 5 being secured to an end of the object by a clamp 6. Rollers 2 on the carriage 1 either free-wheel along a runway 3 or are chain-driven from the motor 4. One of these devices may be attached to each end of the cylindrical object 7.
