Abstract
1,195,040. l - 19 - Nor - steroid - bis - (amidinohydrazones). AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORP. 28 Nov., 1967 [16 Dec., 1966], No. 54063/67. Heading C2U. The novel l-enantiomers (i.e. having 8α,9#, 13α,14#-configuration) of 19-nor-steroids or -D- homo-steroids of the general formula (wherein the #<SP>4</SP>-double bond is optional; R and R<SP>1</SP> are each H or CH 3 with the proviso that R<SP>1</SP> is methyl only when there is a #<SP>4</SP>-double bond present; and n is 1 or 2) and their acid-addition salts are prepared by standard methods from the corresponding 3 and/or 17-ketones, e.g. by reacting these with amino-guanidine or a salt thereof; or by reacting with hydrazine and reacting the hydrazone thus formed with cyanamide; or by converting to a thiosemicarbazone and then reacting with ammonia. The steroid bis-(amidinohydrazones) of the invention are cardiovascular agents which may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions with suitable carriers.
