Abstract
1,194,859. Laminated articles. BRUSHED PLASTICS Ltd. 20 July, 1967, No. 33359/67. Heading B5N. The flat surface on an article 10 is indented so as to form a number of intersecting channels 11, 12, and a thin plastics or metal film 13 is adhesively secured in stretched condition over the surface so as to leave intercommunicating spaces in the channels. The article may be of expanded polystyrene, cardboard, insulation board or wood and the film may be of polythene, p.v.c. or other soft plastics material. The article may be indented after the film has been arranged over its surface, in which case recovery of the film produces spaces 15 at the bottoms of the channels. Preferably, an adhesive comprising globules 14 in a volatile vehicle, such as a polyvinyl acetate emulsion, is used so that even on the raised portions of the indented surface spaces exist between the globules through which gases may pass to the spaces in the channels, thus avoiding the formation of blisters under the film.
